Inbound Call Handling: Drop or Forward Calls to Your Number
When you make outbound phone-banking calls in Vottiv, voters sometimes call back the number that showed on their caller ID. By default these inbound calls are dropped. You can instead have Vottiv forward inbound calls to a real phone (your cell, an office line, a field-team lead) so callbacks reach a human.
Where to find it
Sign in and go to Account → Phone Numbers. Scroll to the Inbound Call Handling section.
The Two Options
Drop calls (default)
Inbound calls are rejected automatically. Voters who call back hear a standard "this call cannot be completed" signal. No charge.
Forward calls
Inbound calls are forwarded to a US phone number you specify. The voter hears the line ring through to your phone and you can take the call live. The original campaign number is preserved on caller ID for the voter, but the call lands wherever you set the forward-to number.
You must enter the destination in E.164 format (a leading +1 followed by ten digits — for example, +15551234567). The Save button stays disabled until the format is correct.
Billing
Forwarded inbound calls are billed against your organization's credits at the standard phone rate, per minute of forwarded call time. There is no separate setup fee — you only pay for time on real connected calls.
Because forwarding is a paid feature, the first time you turn it on you'll see a billing consent modal that summarizes how inbound forwarding is charged. You have to acknowledge it once; after that, toggling Forward on and off is free of additional prompts.
How to Enable Forwarding
Go to Account → Phone Numbers.
Under Inbound Call Handling, select Forward calls.
Enter the destination phone number in E.164 format.
Click Save Changes.
If this is your first time enabling forwarding, accept the billing consent modal.
The setting takes effect immediately for the next inbound call.
How to Turn Forwarding Off
Back on the same page, switch Inbound Call Handling to Drop calls and Save. Inbound calls will immediately stop forwarding and resume being dropped. Your billing consent is remembered, so you won't see the modal again if you re-enable later.
FAQs
Does forwarding work for every campaign number on my account?
Yes — the setting is organization-wide and applies to every inbound call that lands on any of your campaign-banking numbers.
Can I forward to a non-US number?
Not at this time. Vottiv only validates US numbers (+1 followed by ten digits).
What if my credits run out mid-call?
The forwarded call continues to completion; the cost is reconciled against your credit balance after the call ends. Refill credits to keep future calls flowing.
Will my caller's number show up on my phone when forwarded?
Inbound calls are forwarded through Vottiv, so the caller ID your phone sees is the Vottiv campaign number, not the voter's number. The voter's number and the call recording (if applicable) appear in the call log on the platform.
Need Help?
If forwarded calls aren't ringing through to your phone, double-check the destination number format and confirm your phone can receive calls from US numbers. Then contact Vottiv support — we can confirm the routing and look at the call log.
