Rebuild Canvassing Routes
Rebuild Routes creates a new set of routes based on the voters currently in your canvass group.
When should I rebuild?
Vottiv checks active canvasses each night and refreshes route contents when the group changes, removing voters who no longer match the group. This update keeps the existing route boundaries, so you usually do not need to rebuild for routine changes.
Consider rebuilding when group membership changes substantially and the existing routes no longer divide the work well. For example, if many voters leave the group after voting, some routes may have very few doors left. Rebuilding creates new boundaries around the current group so your campaign can organize the work again.
Rebuilding deletes all existing routes and route assignments. Vottiv keeps your voter, household, and walk data, including recorded canvassing work. Plan to assign volunteers to the new routes once the rebuild finishes.
How to rebuild routes
- In the Vottiv web dashboard, open your voter group, then open the canvass.
- Scroll to Canvass Routes and click the gear icon at the top of the table.
- In Routes Table Settings, read the warning and click Rebuild Routes. This starts the rebuild.
- Vottiv shows Routes are being rebuilt and returns you to the canvass list. Wait for generation to finish, then reopen the canvass to review and assign the new routes.
Rebuild between canvassing sessions so volunteers can finish their current routes first. The button is available for automatically generated routes, including Neighborhood-based and Hex grid routes. It does not appear for Precinct or Manual routes.
If you have printed walk lists
Vottiv blocks rebuilding while printed packets are active. Collect the old packets, open Print in the routes table, select Void printed walk lists, and confirm. Then return to the gear icon and rebuild.
Voiding packets stops their QR codes from working. Generate new printed packets after the rebuild; do not reuse the old ones.
