Canvassing Exports

Saved Visits (Canvass Visit History)

Use this export to review saved canvass actions over time. Select Download > Saved visits on a canvass details page, or the separate Export Saved Visits button if that page has not yet changed to a menu. The Canvassing overview uses Export Visit History. Organization administrator access is required to create or download this export and to create its share link.

Each row is one saved visit record. Multiple rows can refer to the same address. Repeating the same action and outcome at the same address, by the same canvasser in the same canvass on the same local day, may not create a new record. Separate action types can create multiple rows during one household interaction. The file is not a count of every physical knock or every tap.

Column

Meaning

Visit ID

The identifier for one saved visit record.

Timestamp

The saved visit time in the organization's time zone.

Timestamp UTC

The same instant in UTC, in ISO date and time format.

Time Zone

The time zone used for Timestamp.

Visit Type

The recorded action: CANVASS_STATUS, LEFT_INFORMATION, VOTER_REGISTRATION, SIGNATURE_COLLECTION, CONTACT_INFORMATION, or ADMIN_STATUS. ADMIN_STATUS is an administrator update, not evidence of a physical door knock.

Canvasser Name / Canvasser ID / Canvasser Email

The person linked to this saved record.

Voter Group / Canvass Name

The group and canvass linked to the record.

Vottiv Address ID

The household address identifier. Use this rather than street text to match records.

Street Address / City / State / Zip

The household address. Saved visits uses the address saved with the visit. Current status uses available address data, with a saved address as a fallback.

Canvass Status

The status stored on this record. It can be blank for an action that did not record a status.

Left Information

Yes when recorded as true; otherwise blank.

Contact Information Gathered

Yes when recorded as true; otherwise blank. This does not contain the contact details collected.

Signatures Collected / New Voters Registered

The counts stored on this record. Interpret saved-visit rows by their action type before adding counts together.

Canvasser Longitude / Canvasser Latitude

The canvasser coordinates stored with the record.

Address Longitude / Address Latitude

The address coordinates stored with the record.

Canvasser distance from address

The recorded distance from the address, in feet.

Location Source

The saved source of the location, when recorded. The value admin identifies an office update; its zero coordinates are not a device GPS reading.

Location Accuracy (m)

The saved location accuracy in meters, when available.

Location Fix Age (s)

The saved location fix age in seconds, when available.

Current Status (Canvass Activity Log)

Use this export for the latest saved status at each address. Select Download > Current status on a canvass details page, or Export Current Status where separate buttons are shown. On Data Exports, its type can still be labeled Canvass Activity Log; the file name identifies it as Current Canvass Status.

Each row is one saved current record for an address within a canvass. Addresses without a saved record are not added just because they are targets on the map. This file does not preserve all earlier visits. A First Recorded date from Monday and a Latest Canvasser from Wednesday can appear on the same row. Use Saved visits to examine those separate saved actions.

Column

Meaning

First Recorded

When the current address record was created. This is not necessarily the date the latest canvasser visited.

Last Updated

When the current address record was last updated.

Time Zone

The time zone used for First Recorded and Last Updated.

Latest Canvasser Name / Latest Canvasser Email / Latest Canvasser Phone

The canvasser linked to the current address record. Earlier canvassers are not listed here.

Mailing Address / Mailing City / Mailing State / Mailing Zip

Mailing address data, when available.

State House District / State Senate District / Congressional District

District information, when available.

County / Precinct Code / Precinct Name

County and precinct information, when available.

Surveyed

Yes when the current record has the surveyed flag; otherwise blank. Individual survey answers are not included.

Compare and Use Canvass Export Files

  • Both files are CSVs. Start the export, wait for it to finish in Data Exports, then select Download on its row. The file's Expires date is shown there.

  • Keep identifiers and ZIP codes as text when importing into a spreadsheet. Compare timestamps in the same time zone.

  • Count distinct Vottiv Address ID values for unique households within a canvass. Do not assume each saved-visit row is a different household. Keep canvasses separate when matching current-status rows.

  • Blank optional fields can mean the value was not recorded or does not apply. Location values alone do not prove that a conversation took place.

  • Neither file includes note text, individual survey answers, voter names and voter IDs, or timesheet hours. Use the separate notes view, survey exports, voter exports, and timesheets for those details. The Surveyed flag is not a set of survey responses.

  • Old downloads do not change when new activity arrives or export columns change. Create a new export after pending work has synced. A new export cannot reconstruct a visit record that was never saved.

For the full workflow, examples, permissions, and troubleshooting, see Monitoring and Managing Canvass Activity in Vottiv.

Canvasser Timesheets

Time tracking data for canvassers. The export uses a hierarchical row structure with different row types.

Doors

Surveyed at Doors

The number of different voters the canvasser surveyed while canvassing. Filled on DATE and TOTALS rows.

Surveyed (Doors + Phone)

The number of different voters the canvasser surveyed while canvassing or phone banking. This matches the survey count in the canvasser table. Filled on DATE and TOTALS rows.

On a DATE row, the survey columns count that day. On a TOTALS row, they count the whole date range, so a voter surveyed on two days counts once. For this reason, the DATE rows can add up to more than the total. A day with phone surveys but no door knocking has no DATE row, but those voters still count in the TOTALS row. The file lists only canvassers who knocked doors in the date range.

Both crosstab sections share these conventions:

  • Percentages are row percentages: of the respondents in the Row Value group, the share who chose each Answer.

  • Every table ends with an All respondents total row covering the full response set.

  • A section is left out of the file entirely when the poll has no tables of that kind — a one-question poll, for example, has no question-by-question section.
