Troubleshooting Canvassing App Location Settings

Having trouble enabling location services on Vottiv.app? ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ“
This guide walks you through the exact steps to get location working again on iPhone, Android, and desktop โ€” including the differences between iOS and Android versions, since Apple and Google move these settings around between releases.

First things first: use the right browser. Vottiv canvassing is supported in Safari on iPhone and Chrome on Android only. If you're in any other browser, switch before troubleshooting anything else.

Fastest fix: use the built-in walkthrough

The Canvasser app includes this help right on the Share your location screen. Tap "Having trouble sharing your location?" and the app opens a step-by-step guide that automatically detects your phone's operating system, its version, and your browser, and shows only the steps that match โ€” including telling you to switch to Safari/Chrome if you're in an unsupported browser. The walkthrough also opens automatically if your phone denies the location request or your location isn't precise enough.

The full steps are below if you prefer to follow along here.

Tip: to find your iOS version, go to Settings โ†’ General โ†’ About. On Android, go to Settings โ†’ About phone.

iPhone (Safari)

Location can be blocked in two places on an iPhone: Safari's per-website permission, and the system-wide Location Services setting. Check both.

โš ๏ธ Using Chrome, Firefox, or another browser on iPhone? Safari is the only supported browser for Vottiv canvassing on iPhone. Open vottiv.app in Safari, sign in, and continue below.

โš ๏ธ Using the Vottiv app from your Home Screen? The home-screen app follows the permission you give vottiv.app in Safari. Open vottiv.app in Safari first, allow location there (Step 1 below), then close Safari and go back to the Vottiv app on your Home Screen โ€” the installed app can't fix this on its own.

Step 1: Allow location for vottiv.app in Safari

The button you tap depends on your iOS version:

iOS 26 and later

  1. Open vottiv.app in Safari

  2. Tap the Page Menu button on the left side of the search field, then tap the โ‹ฏ (More) button

  3. Tap Website Settings โ†’ set Location to Allow (or Ask)

iOS 18 โ€“ 25

  1. Open vottiv.app in Safari

  2. Tap the Page Menu button (a box with two horizontal lines) on the left side of the address bar

  3. Tap Website Settings (you may need to tap โ‹ฏ first) โ†’ set Location to Allow (or Ask)

iOS 17 and earlier

  1. Open vottiv.app in Safari

  2. Tap the "aA" button on the left side of the address bar

  3. Tap Website Settings โ†’ set Location to Allow (or Ask)

You can also set this from the Settings app: Settings โ†’ Apps โ†’ Safari โ†’ Location on iOS 18 and later, or Settings โ†’ Safari โ†’ Location on iOS 17 and earlier. Set it to Ask, then allow when prompted.

Step 2: Check your iPhone's system-wide Location Services

This path is the same on every iOS version:

  1. Go to Settings โ†’ Privacy & Security โ†’ Location Services and make sure the switch at the very top is ON

  2. In the same list, tap Safari Websites โ†’ choose While Using the App

  3. Turn Precise Location ON โ€” canvassing needs your exact position, not the approximate one

The Safari Websites entry also governs home-screen web apps like Vottiv. If Vottiv appears by name in the Location Services list, use that entry instead.

Still stuck? Clear the site's data and let it ask again: Settings โ†’ Apps โ†’ Safari โ†’ Advanced โ†’ Website Data (no "Apps" step on iOS 17 and earlier) โ†’ search vottiv.app โ†’ Remove, then revisit the site and tap Allow when prompted.

Android (Chrome)

Location can be blocked in two places on Android: Chrome's per-site permission, and the phone's system-wide location settings. Check both.

โš ๏ธ Using Samsung Internet, Firefox, or another browser? Chrome is the only supported browser for Vottiv canvassing on Android. Open vottiv.app in Chrome, sign in, and continue below.

โš ๏ธ Installed the Vottiv app on your home screen? The installed app follows the permission you give vottiv.app in Chrome. Open vottiv.app in Chrome first, allow location there (Step 1 below), then close Chrome and go back to the installed Vottiv app. Also check the installed app's own permission: press and hold the Vottiv icon โ†’ App info (โ“˜) โ†’ Permissions โ†’ Location โ†’ Allow only while using the app.

Step 1: Allow location for vottiv.app in Chrome

  1. Open vottiv.app in Chrome

  2. Tap the icon to the left of the web address (a lock or sliders icon) โ†’ Permissions โ†’ set Location to Allow

  3. If you don't see it there: tap the โ‹ฎ menu โ†’ Settings โ†’ Site settings โ†’ Location, make sure Location is not blocked, and check that vottiv.app is not in the Blocked list (if it is, tap it and set to Allow)

Step 2: Check your phone's system-wide location settings

Android 12 and later

  1. Go to Settings โ†’ Location and make sure Use location is ON

  2. Go to Settings โ†’ Apps โ†’ Chrome โ†’ Permissions โ†’ Location โ†’ choose Allow only while using the app

  3. Turn Use precise location ON โ€” canvassing needs your exact position

  4. Optional: Settings โ†’ Location โ†’ Location services โ†’ Google Location Accuracy โ†’ ON

Android 11 and earlier

  1. Go to Settings โ†’ Location (on some phones: Settings โ†’ Security & location โ†’ Location) and make sure Location is ON

  2. Go to Settings โ†’ Apps โ†’ Chrome โ†’ Permissions โ†’ Location โ†’ choose Allow only while using the app (there is no separate precise-location toggle on these versions)

Exact menu names can vary slightly by phone maker (Samsung, Pixel, etc.), but the Location and App permissions screens exist on all of them.

Desktop (Chrome, Edge)

  1. Open chrome://settings/content/location โ†’ enable Sites can ask to know your location

  2. Visit vottiv.app โ†’ click the lock icon (๐Ÿ”’) in the address bar โ†’ Site settings โ†’ Location: Allow

  3. If previously blocked: Settings โ†’ Privacy and security โ†’ Site settings โ†’ Location โ†’ Blocked โ†’ find vottiv.app โ†’ set to Allow

  4. If needed: clear site data for vottiv.app (cookies/site data), then retry and allow when prompted

What to send Support if it still fails
