How to View and Understand Poll Results

3 min. readlast update: 12.11.2025

After you’ve created and sent a poll in Vottiv, you can view detailed results, see how responses are weighted, and review comments from respondents. This article walks you through each part of the poll analytics view and how to interpret what you’re seeing.

✅ Prerequisites

Before you start, make sure you:

  • Have created and sent at least one poll

  • Have responses collected (even a few) so results can be displayed

1. Navigate to Your Polls

  1. Log in to Vottiv.

  2. In the main navigation, click Polling.

  3. You’ll see a list of polls you’ve created.

  4. Find the poll you want to review and click View Analytics.

2. Review the Overview Tab

Once you click View Analytics, you’ll land on the Overview tab.

Here you can see:

  • Total cost of the poll

  • Overall response rate

  • A quick snapshot of how the poll performed

Use this tab for a high-level check before diving into detailed results.

3. View Question Results (Results Tab)

  1. Click the Results tab.

  2. For each question in your poll, you’ll see a chart showing how people responded.

You’ll notice two versions of each result:

  • Lighter color = Raw responses

    • The literal count of how many people selected each answer

  • Darker color = Weighted responses

    • Adjusted so the results better match your target population

You’ll also see a confidence interval for each result.

  • This shows the range the true value is likely to fall within.

  • For example, if a result is 52% ± 3%, the actual value likely falls between 49% and 55%.

Tip:
Use weighted results (darker color) when making strategic decisions, since they’re adjusted to better reflect the overall population, not just who happened to respond.

4. Understand Your Sample (Stratification Tab)

  1. Click the Stratification tab.

Here, you’ll see how your sample is broken into strata—subgroups that represent parts of your population (for example: age groups, party affiliation, or geography).

For each stratum, Vottiv shows:

  • The percentage of your sample that group makes up

  • Invites sent

  • Responses received

  • Response rate

  • The weight applied to that group’s responses

How weighting works

Weighting keeps your results representative by preventing overly responsive groups from skewing the data.

  • If a group is overrepresented in responses, its weight is less than 1

    • Their answers count less

  • If a group is underrepresented, its weight is greater than 1

    • Their answers count more

This helps ensure your final poll results reflect your target population, not just the loudest or most responsive subgroup.

5. Read Open-Ended Feedback (Comments Tab)

  1. Click the Comments tab.

Here you’ll see any open-ended responses left by participants.

6. Turn Results Into Campaign Actions

Once you’ve explored your:

  • Overview metrics

  • Weighted vs. raw results

  • Stratification and weighting

  • Voter comments

You can use these insights to:

  • Refine messaging

  • Adjust targeting

  • Prioritize issues

  • Test new approaches in future polls
