When someone signs up as a canvasser in Vottiv, the system automatically creates a Vottiv account for that email address. Because no password is set at that time, users sometimes don’t realize they already have an account. Later, when they try to sign up again (for example, to call or text), they may see this message:
“That email address is taken. Please try another.”
This means the email is already tied to an existing account—you just need to log in.
Option 1: Log In with Google
If you originally used a Google-associated email when creating your canvasser account:
-
Go to vottiv.com/login.
-
Click Log in with Google.
-
Choose the same Gmail address you used for canvassing.
-
You’ll be logged in instantly without resetting a password.

Option 2: Reset Your Password
If you didn’t use a Google email, or you prefer to set a password:
-
Go to vottiv.com/login.
-
Click Forgot Password?
-
Enter the email you used as a canvasser.
-
Check your inbox, follow the reset link, set a new password, and log in.

Common Scenarios
-
Demo Book Accounts – If you used your email for a demo book (like the Orange County Demo), that email is already registered. Use Log in with Google or reset your password instead of signing up again.
-
Multiple Emails – Double-check for typos or alternate emails. Many people have both a Gmail and a work email and may have used one for canvassing and another for sign-up.
-
New Volunteers – Let canvassers know that signing up creates a full Vottiv account automatically—even if they never set a password.
Summary
“Email already taken” doesn’t mean you’re blocked, it just means your Vottiv account already exists. Use Log in with Google or Forgot Password to regain access and continue calling, texting, canvassing, or managing your campaign tools.
